PM Modi next-generation reforms
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed Union ministers to intensify efforts toward next-generation reforms aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, when the country will celebrate 100 years of Independence.
During a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in New Delhi, the Prime Minister stressed that governance reforms should focus on improving the “ease of living” for citizens and ensuring long-term development across sectors. He reportedly told ministers that all policy decisions and initiatives should ultimately benefit the common people and make their lives more comfortable.
According to sources, Modi emphasized that the government should look ahead instead of focusing only on past achievements. He urged ministers to remain committed to delivery, efficiency, and implementation of welfare schemes so that citizens receive maximum benefits without delays.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of reducing pendency in government work and ensuring faster execution of projects and public services. He reportedly said that unnecessary interference in people’s daily lives should be minimized while governance systems should become more citizen-friendly and transparent.
The meeting included presentations from several senior officials and secretaries on reforms and initiatives undertaken by different ministries. Discussions reportedly focused on policy transformation, administrative efficiency, and measures that can contribute to India’s long-term development roadmap.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also briefed ministers on the Prime Minister’s recent multi-nation foreign visit, during which Modi visited countries including the UAE, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, and Italy.
The government has increasingly emphasized reforms related to taxation, digital governance, infrastructure, labour laws, and ease of doing business as part of its broader economic and governance agenda. Officials said the current focus is on building systems that are efficient, technology-driven, and citizen-centric.
The meeting comes at a time when the Centre is pushing multiple governance and economic reforms under its “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision. Political observers believe the government is trying to position the next phase of reforms around long-term growth, public welfare, and administrative modernization.
Sources indicated that ministers have also been asked to monitor implementation closely and ensure accountability at all levels. The Prime Minister reportedly reiterated that governance must remain outcome-oriented and future-focused as India moves toward becoming a developed economy over the next two decades.
