Made in India Swadeshi Runway to Make Historic Debut at Delhi’s Red Fort, Celebrating Indian Fashion, Culture and Social Empowerment

NEW DELHI, INDIA — The Made in India Swadeshi Runway, a national initiative launched in Maharashtra in 2017, is preparing for a landmark showcase at Delhi’s iconic Red Fort (Lal Qila). Founded and conceptualised by Sonia Mayers, widely known as India’s Fashion Guru, the movement aims to bring Indian craftsmanship, homegrown brands, cultural heritage and social empowerment together on a prominent national platform.

According to the organisers, the initiative has completed eight previous shows described as world-record-breaking events. Its proposed Red Fort showcase represents the next chapter in its mission to promote Indian products, traditional artistry and indigenous talent under the guiding philosophy, “Be Indian, Buy Indian.”

The organisers describe the planned event as a significant milestone for a woman-led, non-governmental initiative, bringing fashion, culture and social impact together at one of India’s most recognisable historical landmarks.

Promoting the Spirit of “Be Indian, Buy Indian”

Made in India Swadeshi Runway, founded by Sonia Mayers, announces a planned showcase at Delhi’s Red Fort, highlighting Indian fashion, homegrown brands, cultural heritage and social empowerment.

At the heart of the Swadeshi Runway is a commitment to promoting products and talent originating in India. The initiative aims to spotlight more than traditional textiles, creating a platform for Indian brands, artisans, producers and creative entrepreneurs to showcase their work to wider audiences.

Through fashion presentations and digital promotion, the movement seeks to increase visibility for homegrown businesses and encourage consumers to recognise the value of Indian-made products.

The planned showcase also aims to connect traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion, presenting India's cultural identity through clothing, artistry, music and performance.

Empowering 500 Children Through Education and Skills

Social upliftment is a central element of the initiative. The organisers state that the Swadeshi Runway is extending free education, food and skill-development support to 500 children.

As part of the planned showcase, children will have the opportunity to walk the runway wearing creations from Indian brands. The initiative seeks to build confidence, encourage participation and demonstrate how fashion can become a platform for inclusion and personal development.

By bringing children into the spotlight, the organisers aim to connect the promotion of Indian brands with a wider commitment to education, opportunity and social responsibility.

A Showcase of Indian Heritage and Artistry

The proposed event will bring together cultural performances, traditional Indian dance, indigenous music and demonstrations of the country's rich artistic traditions.

According to the organisers, master artisans and cultural figures are expected to participate without charging a fee, supporting the initiative's aim of preserving and celebrating Indian craftsmanship.

The event also plans to use digital platforms to expand its reach beyond the venue, showcasing Indian culture and homegrown brands to audiences across India and internationally.

Honouring Changemakers Through the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Bharat Puraskar

The initiative also plans to confer the Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Bharat Puraskar, described by the organisers as a recognition of individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions to society.

The proposed honours are intended to recognise achievers from government and non-government sectors, including scientists, professionals, emerging startups and exceptional children.

The organisers state that the initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the House of Kalam, with the aim of celebrating innovation, service, leadership and social contribution in the spirit of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's legacy.

An Opportunity for Sponsors, Brands and NGOs

Made in India Swadeshi Runway, founded by Sonia Mayers, announces a planned showcase at Delhi’s Red Fort, highlighting Indian fashion, homegrown brands, cultural heritage and social empowerment.

As the movement prepares for its proposed Red Fort showcase, the organisers are inviting sponsors, brand partners, artists and non-governmental organisations to participate.

The collaboration opportunity is intended for organisations that support Indian manufacturing, cultural preservation, youth development, education and social responsibility.

For sponsors and participating brands, the initiative presents an opportunity to associate with a platform focused on Indian craftsmanship, community engagement and cultural promotion.

Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, founder Sonia Mayers said:

“This is not just a sponsorship; it is a partnership with a higher purpose. Aligning with this event means associating your brand with a powerful national mission, cultural legacy, and social transformation that has never been witnessed at the Red Fort before.”

Sonia Mayers’ Vision for a Swadeshi Movement

Through the Made in India Swadeshi Runway, Sonia Mayers aims to connect fashion with a broader national message: supporting Indian products, recognising indigenous talent and creating opportunities for communities that deserve greater visibility.

The initiative combines fashion presentation with cultural celebration and social engagement, positioning the runway as a platform for both creative expression and public awareness.

As preparations continue, the organisers are inviting interested sponsors, artists, brands and NGOs to join the movement and contribute to its stated mission of promoting Indian heritage and empowerment.
