New Delhi : A former domestic help, Rahul Meena, has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in Delhi’s Kailash Hills area, in a case that has drawn nationwide outrage. Police said the accused is also suspected of committing another rape in Rajasthan’s Alwar just hours earlier.
According to investigators, the victim was the daughter of a senior IRS officer and had been living in the Kailash Hills residence with her family. Police said the accused entered the house after familiarizing himself with the family’s routine and security layout, then attacked the woman before fleeing the scene.
Officials said the woman was strangled with a mobile phone charging cable after being sexually assaulted. Preliminary findings also suggest that cash and valuables were taken from the house, indicating that robbery may have been part of the motive.
Police believe Meena had earlier worked at the residence and knew the family well. Investigators are examining how he accessed the property and how long he remained inside before escaping. CCTV footage, call records, and travel details are being reviewed to trace his movements before and after the crime.
The case became even more disturbing after police in Rajasthan reported that the same accused may have raped another woman in Alwar on the same night, only hours before the Delhi murder. Authorities are now trying to reconstruct the exact sequence of events across both states.
The brutality of the crime and the short time gap between the two alleged sexual assaults have triggered public anger and renewed questions over women’s safety, especially in residential neighborhoods. Police have intensified their investigation and are gathering forensic evidence to strengthen the case.
Rahul Meena remains at the center of the probe as investigators work to confirm the full chain of events. Charges related to rape, murder, and theft are expected to form the core of the legal action against him.
